2003 Vouvray, 1er Tri, Le Marigny, Domaine des Aubuisières
Bernard Fouquet is one of the topgrowers in Vouvray and organically- inclined. Vineyard inputs are applied with pinpoint accuracy, and grasses are grown between vine rows to encourage natural predators. This is the top cuvée from 'Le Marigny', one of Bernard's vine- clad lawns, planted on limestone. Made from super-ripe grapes, it's rich, intense and luxurious, with concentrated, honeyed stone fruit and ripe apple flavours.Recommended with baked pear flan.
2007 Te Koko Sauvignon, Cloudy Bay Marlborough
Aromas of lemon thyme, mandarin blossom and stonefruit combine harmoniously with ginger spice and nutty and savoury tones, underlined by exotic tropical notes. The many-layered palate is creamy and textured, balanced by a clean, mineral acidity. Cloudy Bay winemakers. The grapes for Te Koko come from the same meticulously managed vineyards as Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, and the parcels of fruit destined for Te Koko are identified at the time of harvesting. The fruit is fermented naturally using indigenous yeasts. Te koko is released as a three year old wine, only after all of the individual components are fully integrated.
2006 Molino Real, Mountain Malaga, Telmo Rodriguez, 50cl
A truely stunning dessert wine with hugely complex flavours. Although sweet, it's not at all cloying, and the finish is fresh, clean and delicious. Recommended with strawberries.
VESTAL - Amber 50cl Bottle
Vestal Vodka has an exciting new liqueur. Made from their own vodka and the syrup of hand-picked elderberry flowers, Vestal Amber is artfully packaged to highlight the beautiful golden/brown colour of the Baltic amber after which it is named. Rich and with just enough sweetness to make it a traditional Polish accompaniment to cake and desserts, they've found that it makes a lovely aperitif (just add a cube or two of ice and some mint) or a wonderful base for longer drinks made with sparkling white wine, Prosecco or Champagne. It can also be mixed with Vestal grain vodka, tonic water, ice and mint for a tinglingly refreshing aperitif. In the pagan traditions of many European countries, elderberry was used to remove negative spells and heal numerous ailments. It was also believed to produce vivid and often beautiful dreams, and wish you these and much more from your encounter with Vestal Amber.
Hochheimer Kirchenstuck Riesling Auslese, Domdechant Werner
The 35 acres of this family wine estate of Domdechant Werner is run by the urbane Dr Franz Werner Michel and his daughter Catharina Mauritz – whose family have owned it since 1780. Based on the edge of the picturesque village of Hochheim in the Rheingau, (which gave the name Hock to all Rhine wines), the vineyards, planted mostly to Riesling (98%), are planted on mineral-rich, gently sloping, south facing, chalk-dominant soils. Studies have shown that 85% of the estate's vineyards are eligible for the 'Erstes Gewächs' status, which are effectively First Growth classification. This is an historic estate, making exceptionally pure, racy Rieslings – in the traditional, time-honoured fashion.
Champagne Alain Bergère, Rose Brut
A small family concern that produces excellent value wines of notable quality. Inducted into the 'Order of the White Apron' -Champagne's elite brotherhood -after graduating in wine science at the University of Rheims in 1984, Alain proudly perpetuates a 370-year-old family winemaking tradition. His vineyards lie south of Epernay and west of the Marne Valley. Chardonnay, with a splash of Pinot Meunier to give this colour and more red fruit character in the mouth.
2002 Vouvray, Moelleux 'Le Mont', Domaine Huet, Loire
Gaston Huet sadly died several years ago but his son in law, Noel Pinguet, carries on his work and, apart from the addition of a pneumatic press, in the 1980's, his methods. This quote from their web-site says it all - "In modern agriculture, with the race on for so-called viability and for ever-more intensive productivity, the use of chemicals is constantly increasing. However, the use of chemical weedkillers, insecticides, acaricidal pesticides and systemic compounds (which penetrate into the plant's circulatory system) completely destroys the balance of the soil and the environment." They have been organic for many years and now work biodynamically. This dedication to principals of Rudolph Steiner underscores all that Noel does. This is the the most famous domaine in Vouvray and deserves its position by producing consistently top class wines year on year.

Aerating reveals smoke and honey. Palate: Full bodied and well balanced with complex flavours of candied fruits, apples and quince with smoke and honey hints. A beautiful long finish. Food Matching: Fois Gras, Roasted Pheasant, Strong Blue Cheese, Tarte Tatin. Hand-picked into crates. Whole bunches pressed at once before being left to settle on the lees. Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled tuns before being left for another 8 months on the lees. This volcanic-sandstone plot is on unique site, on a steeply sloping rocky outcrop facing south-west, south and south-east. The light, sandy soil, which need to be retained by huge dry stones walls only gives low yields. 20 ha out of this 26 ha plot belong to Domaines Schlumberger.
G D VAJRA - Langhe Bianco Rhein Riesling 2009 75cl Bottle
Pale, lemon yellow in colour, the 2009 Riesling is fresh and youthful, with zesty, lemon-lime perfumes and a classic mineral note. The must was fermented in stainless steel tanks at 15-18°C, with half a day of skin contact. The wine had minimum contact with its lees. The wine remained for 6 months in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, and for a further six months in bottle before release.
ESPRIT DE JUNE 70cl Bottle
Esprit de June is a unique, rare and gourmande liqueur crafted with the ephemeral flowers from Ugni Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and other grape varietals. Warm, luminous and intriguing, L'Esprit de June captures the bewitching yet subtle aromas of the vine flowers blossoming only a few days in June, and expresses floral and fruity notes (peach, pear, lychee, berries, white flowers). With a minimum amount of sugar and 28% ABV, Esprit de June may well be the most perfectly balanced liqueur in the world. Like the purity of it's vine flowers, June is transparent. No colourants or additives are added to this precious elixir
HENSCHKE - Croft Chardonnay 2007 75cl Bottle
Bright gold-green in colour. Sweet, lifted ripe and complex with pear drop, peach, clove, spice, cashew nut and hints of grapefruit and lemon. A rich full complex concentrated and intense palate with layers of flavours, mineral and apricot kernel, good acidity and texture with excellent depth and length. 100% chardonnay grapes grown on Stephen and Prue Henschke's Lenswood vineyard in the Adelaide Hills. Stephen and Prue Henschke pioneered Lenswood as a vineyard site in the Adelaide Hills in 1981. At 550 metres, the Lenswood vineyards offer not only beautiful views over the older vine country but also higher rainfall and humidity at the right time of the year, cooler temperatures to retain high natural acidity, and still enough sunshine to fully ripen the grapes. The chardonnay vineyard has taken its name from the adjoining Croft Road. Frederick Croft, an orchardist, took up a neighbouring property in 1938. The 2007 vintage shaped up to be another high quality year but with significantly reduced yields in Eden Valley and average yields in the Adelaide Hills. The highly publicised drought of 2006 has been reported as the worst ever. Certainly the rainfall at Eden Valley for the three months of winter at only 90mm compared to the average of 200mm was one of our driest. Despite an early winter break, rainfall during winter and spring was the worst for years in the lead-up to flowering. There was significant spring frost damage in Eden Valley, with a yield loss of 20-25%, compounded by the drought and lack of subsoil moisture with overall losses of up to 50% expected. Brief heat waves occurred during January; otherwise it was mild and dry. At the end of January a tropical air mass connected with a cold front to bring good rains to the agricultural areas of South Australia, with flooding up north. The 70mm rainfall fell steadily over four days, coinciding with veraison, which freshened up the vine canopy to assist with ripening the fruit for harvest. February has been recorded as the hottest for 100 years, bringing the already reduced crop to an earlier ripening phase. The vintage began three to four weeks early, one of the earliest on record, remaining dry and mild allowing for good maturity. All the whites were picked by the end of March and the reds by the third week in April, a record early finish. In summary, a vintage with low yields but very good quality. Cellaring Potential: Exceptional vintage, drink now to 2012.
STELLA BELLA - Suckfizzle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2006 75cl Bottle
A distinctive and multifarious bouquet of lemon/line preserves sweet herbs, cut grass, gooseberry, mineral/flint talc and toasted oak spice. The palate is structured by the driving purity of Semillon's citrus fruits then enriched with Sauvignon Blanc's nectarine, gooseberry, passionfruit and sweet herbs. From fermentation and lengthy maturation in oak, the palate acquires an oak veneer, a mineral edge and lemon butter richness. In time, the tightly woven acidity will soften and the oak will meld with the ample ripe fruit to yield a fine, long living layered and meticulously structured wine. Food ideas: Poached salmon, natural oysters or chevre. Drink it: 8 years plus and best from 2008 to 2013
2007 Mas de Daumas Gassac Blanc, Vin de Pays de l'Herault
Celebrated Languedoc 'Grand Cru', Mas de Daumas Gassac is home to iconoclast Aimé Guibert, who carved vineyards into the herb- scented, tangled thicket ('garrigue') pervading his ancient estate. Disdain for the varietal-proscribing laws of appellation (which, he says, guarantee nothing but mediocrity) finds expression in gems like this rich blend of seven different grapes.
2007 Bourgogne Blanc, Domaine Leflaive
This charming Chardonnay comes partly from young vines, and partly from declassified Puligny. Domaine Leflaive's reputation is second to none, so this wine is really a slice of the action from on high; crumbs from the top table! Creamy oak, spice and lively hints of grapefruit and nuts.
