2007 Gevrey Chambertin Villages, Domaine Armand Rousseau 12 bottles per case
A blistering hot April, was followed by a pretty dull summer, culminating in a beautiful late August throught to September. Charles Rousseau's wines show classic raspberyy and red fruit tones, with decent structure - for early drinking. His 07s will charm and please, whilst your 05 and 06s continue to evolve.
2009 Les Fiefs de Lagrange, St Julien, En primeur, 12-bottle case 12 bottles per case
Since this worthy château embraced outside investment, the quality and consistency have marched on, hand in hand. The red vineyards are planted on some of the highest land (Gunzian gravel) in St Julien to 65% Cabernet , 28% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot and the wine for Les Fiefs gets 20% new oak. A vintage such as this, showing all the attendant black fruit and lifted aromatics, shares the Grand Vin's fine tannic structure and will appeal to all fans of this fresh and elegant style. This fights its corner brilliantly well, and will be a joy in seven or eight years time. Drink 2016 – 2020.
2009 Château Cardinale-Villemaurine, Grand cru Classé St Emilion, En primeur, 12
Owned by Vignobles Jean François Carrille, this is by anyone’s standards, an ancient estate, able to trace its roots back to 732. The blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc set this apart at tasting, showing plenty of red fruit and subtlety – very St Emilion. The seven hectares of vines are spread over five very diverse parcels of land, each with its own specific character, adding to the wines complexity. The use of 40% new oak and 60% of one vintage old barrels, add cedar tones, but this in no way dominates, allowing the purity of red fruit from forty year old vines, to shine through. 2018 – 2022.
2009 Château Perron, Lalande de Pomerol, En primeur, 12 bottle case 12 bottles per case
This Right Bank estate is currently in the very capable hands of Bertrand Massonie – who is the third generation of the family to run it. Fifteen hectares on sandy gravel top-soil over ferruginous sub-soil planted to 80% Merlot and 10% of both Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Minimal use of chemicals (lutte raisonée), unrivalled attention to detail in the vineyards and hand picked grapes contribute towards the quality here. 30% new oak will round out this wine to perfection, and I envisage this in 8 years time as being the perfect bottle to be enjoyed with roast lamb. It will evolve into a delightfully ‘grown-up’ claret, with its combined red and black fruit attributes and some attractive tobacco leaf tones. Very good. 2017 – 2022.
2010 Château Le Doyenne, 1er Côtes de Bordeaux, EPx12bt 12 bottles per case
The phenomenal value of this junior Right Bank estate caught our eye in 2000 and again in 2009. Marie-Dominique Watrin has produced a wine of great elegance and smoothness, with ripe, red and plumy fruits and beautifully poised acidity. Planted to 70% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. 40% is now spending 12 months in new oak, and the balance in 1 and 2 year-old oak, which will enhance the fruit, and soften the signature tannins of 2010. Drinking from 2015 – 2020.
2006 Cornerstone,Cab/Merlot/Malbec, Newton Forrest, Hawke's Bay 12 bottles per case
Leaving behind careers in medicine and molecular biology, Doctors John and Brigid Forrest established Forrest Estate in Marlborough's stony Wairau River Valley in 1989. This cheery pair won a coup at their first vintage, scooping a trophy at NZ's national wine awards. This extravagantly rich red blend exudes aromas of dark chocolate cherry liqueurs and spicy oak. Great depth of spicy blackberry, plum and chocolate flavours. Try it with roast venison.
A Taste of Primitivo, 12-bottle case
Polvanera - pure and elegant Primitivo from a small wine producer in the Murge Hills, Puglia. Unoaked, highly concentrated and wonderfully balanced. The Primitivo 'A Mano' is a blockbuster. Spicy, smoky, with liquorice notes and plenty of red berry fruit. The Scotto Old Vines Zinfandel is intense, with lively black cherry fruit and a hint of pepper thanks to a dash of Syrah.
COBOS - Nico Cabernet Malbec 2006 75cl Bottle
Created in honour of Don Nico Marchiori, patriarch of Marchiori Vineyard, this complex, powerful and refined 2006 vintage offers aromas of ripe blackberries, red currant, dark cherries and toasted brioche. The muscular palate unfolds in elegant layers of ripe black fruits, strawberries and notes of smoke, dried herbs and cigar box. Very fine-grained tannins frame this seamless wine and lead on to a silky, persistent finish. Despite snow and higher than normal precipitation in late spring, the 2006 growing season was warm and dry overall. Summer temperatures were moderate and even. The result was fruit of even higher quality and greater concentration than that of the outstanding 2005 vintage. Grape: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Malbec.
2009 Château Caillou Les Martins, Lussac St Emilion, En primeur, 12 bottle case
Eight hectares owned by Jean-François Carrille (see also Cardinale-Villemaurine) in this ‘satellite’ commune on the north east flank of the St Emilion appellation, about 6 miles from the town of St Emilion. The predominantly Merlot vineyards are planted on limestone and ferruginous clay; average age of the vines is a relatively spritely 20 years old. 70% of the wine will be aged for around 18 months in one vintage-old barriques, so the ripe tannins are further ameliorated and enhanced. This is an out-and-out Right Bank wine with all its attendant plumy red fruit styling, with the added benefits of a great vintage. Drink from 2013 - 2016
The Return of Chateau Monty, 12-bottle Mixed Case
Try all three of Monty's new wines, all are organic and very tasty. Monty's Red is made from old vine Carignan with 25% Syrah and a touch of Grenache and Maccabeu. It has hints of thyme, wild herbs and rustic black fruits. Monty's White is made entirely from Maccabeu fermented in old oak barrels. Monty's Rosé is made from Syrah and is firm, dry and characterful with wild red fruit flavours.
Pick Of The List Case 2010 12 Bottle
This sample case is a complete tour de force of red and white grape varieties. Eight red and at least nine whites. We list as many as we can count, but once you have all the bottles in front of you, maybe you will be the wiser. Amongst the reds and including the Rosado, we counted Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache, Malbec, Merlot, Sangiovese, Gamay and Pinot Noir. The whites include Semillon, Sauvignon, Arrufiac, Petit Courbu, Manseng, Viura, Verdejo, Viognier, Torrontés and Albariño. This is surely what makes buying wines from Adnams such a voyage of discovery -the sheer spread and diversity of varieties. Bon dégustation.
2007 Clos Vougeot 'Le Grand Maupertui' Domaine Anne Gros
Black tea, wood-smoke, savoury meaty aromas. Purple and red fruit - plums and raspberries. Medium weight, forward and classy as befits one of the Côtes de Nuits most highly rated growers. Anne is a member of the legendary Burgundian Gros family. Based in Vosne Romanée, her vineyard work is dictated by her deep respect for the soil, her land and the greater environment, so ploughing and tilling are the order of the day. Her custom built barrel cellar has more in common with a top Bordelais chateau's than with the average Burgundian cellar. Her wines show elegance and style, and need several years to show themselves off at their best. As organic as you can get, without being certified.
ROTHSCHILD - Almaviva 2006 75cl Bottle
Dark ruby red, intense and opaque. The nose is deep and complex, remarkably rich and concentrated, revealing fresh ripe fruits aromas, wild strawberries, black currant and blackberries nicely associated with mineral notes, spices, tobacco and coffee. The attack is powerful, ample and silky, immediately revealing a well-balanced and harmonious structure. The tannins are ripe and round, nicely enveloped by flavourful hints of vanilla, toasted orange zest, lavender, chocolate, and licorice. The finish is long, mineral and silky, enhancing the richness of the ripe fruit and the elegance of the tannins. A superb wine of an exceptional finesse and remarkable expression. The 2005 harvest season for Almaviva was the longest and latest ever, lasting from April 14th to May 17th. Meticulous ripeness controls and triple selection helped to obtain a very fine wine. Winter was warmer than average and marked nearly 30% less rainfall than an average year. The warm temperatures throughout the winter days, together with high temperatures in September, contribute to an early and homogenous budbreak on September 20 for the Cabernet Sauvignon, five days earlier than the average. Robert Parker: 94 points. Grape: 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Carmenere, 5% Cabernet Franc.

HENSCHKE - Mount Edelstone Shiraz 2006 75cl Bottle
Very deep crimson/black in colour. A complex sweet, spicy nose showing lifted fragrant aromas of plum and blackberry with hints of sage and pepper supported by toasty oak. The intensely fruited palate exhibiting dark berries is complex and fleshy with great structure, velvety tannins and a long finish. Great vintage, drink now to 2016. Serving Idea: Pan-roasted rib-eye steak with red wine and parsnip mash. In 1912 Ronald Angas planted the sandy loam slopes of Mount Edelstone with shiraz. Located high in the Eden Valley region this vineyard came to be known as Mount Edelstone meaning gemstone. The 90-year-old ungrafted dry-grown vines from this historic single vineyard are low yielding, producing a depth of colour, concentration of flavour, length and maturity of tannins unique to old-vine shiraz. Mount Edelstone has achieved a formidable reputation since its first vintage in 1952. The 2006 vintage shaped up as another high quality year but with only average yields in the Eden Valley and Adelaide Hills. After a late break in mid-June 2005, winter and spring rains were some of the best for years in the lead-up to flowering in early summer. Some varieties, such as riesling and shiraz, suffered more than others from poor set, leading to ‘hen and chicken’. While there was some damage in Eden Valley from frost, this had only a minor impact on the overall yield; however, yields in most varieties were down by 15-20%. The summer was mild with southerly winds, reminiscent of 2002. Brief heat waves occurred in late January and mid-February but were early enough not to affect quality, with only minor sunburn on exposed fruit. Whites were nearly all picked by the end of March, an unusual situation. Summary: Excellent to Exceptional white vintage with below average yields.
PERRIER JOUET - Blason Rose With 2 Flutes 75cl Bottle
A magical cuvee that is part of Perrier Jouets history: the Blason wines remain in the portfolio at the gentle insistence of their gourmet devotees. Orange blossom and rose preserve, cherry and blackberry. The distinctive fruity notes of Blason Rose derive from the red Champagne wines skilfully picked out from the best crus by the Cellar Master. Perrier Jouet Rose is a generous, fleshy and sensual wine, at once fresh and intense, with aromas revealed superbly by a meal of sweet and savoury combinations, such as duck breast with candied fruit. A generous, fleshy and sensual wine, at once fresh and intense, with aromas revealed superbly by a meal of sweet and savoury combinations, such as duck breast with candied fruit, or with a hot dessert like a red fruit sabayon. The House's choicest gourmet treat.

HAVANA CLUB - Selecion De Maestros 70cl Bottle
Havana Club Seleccion de Maestros represents the ultimate and most perfected expression of the collective involvement of six experienced Maestros Roneros, led by the talented Don Jose Navarro. In order to create 'Seleccion de Maestros', the Maestros Roneros select together the finest aged rums that one by one had been put aside for their truly exceptional quality.
