2009 Puligny Montrachet 'Les Referts', Etienne Sauzet, En P 6 bottles per case

The ever-sanguine Gérard Boudot, sporting a grey designer stubble, continues to make excellent wines. His immaculate winery inspires one with confidence, with its nautically furled hosepipes, shiny tanks, and scrubbed tiles underfoot. We are seeing a changing of the guard at the domaine, with his daughter and her husband gradually taking over the reins, but like all these things, gradual is the operative word. Maintaining standards won’t be an issue, but bettering their inheritance may be difficult. Gérard’s 09s are fresh and clean, with some excellent weight of ripe fruit. They will be drinking supremely relatively soon.

VILLA MARIA - Reserve Clifford Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2010 75cl Bottle

VILLA MARIA - Reserve Clifford Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2010 75cl Bottle
£12.59

Located in Marlborough's cooler Awatere Valley, Clifford Bay's climatic influence plays a significant role in the varietal flavours of the selected vineyards. This wine is a pure example of concentrated Sauvignon Blanc displaying intense aromas of currant leaf, gooseberry and fresh lime intertwined with exotic herb notes. An explosive, concentrated palate gives way to a long mineral and steely finish. 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Hand harvested bunches were destemmed and crushed. For maturation, the juice was then left on the lees for two months until it was racked to ferment in a tank. Subsequently, the resulting wine was gently fined out and filtered before bottling.

2008 Unwooded Chardonnay, Seidelberg Estate

2008 Unwooded Chardonnay, Seidelberg Estate
£7.99

Seidelberg, established in 1680 on the southern slopes of the Paarlberg mountain, was originally known as 'De Leuwen Jagt' ('the lion hunt') but in these conservationist times the current owner, German émigré Roland Seidel thought it sensible to re-christen the place. The estate's rust-hued soils produce rich, rumbustious reds; there's uncommon restraint here in this fine, pure, uncluttered and unwooded Chardonnay, with its ripe, melony fruit and fresh citrus twist.
