2009 Meursault 'Les Genevrieres', Domaine Antoine Jobard, En 6 bottles per case
We have known this estate for many years, so it is a huge pleasure to re-visit and re-taste with François Jobard's super-capable son, Antoine. The wines used to be pretty good here, and I note Simon Loftus’ enthusiasm for them back in the ‘90s. But I am happy to say, François's winemaking philosophy has been passed on to his son, who has taken it all to another level, and is making even better wines than dad. Antoine makes a point of doing as little as possible in the cellar – and crucially he leaves his Chardonnays on their fine lees for 16 months, so when he comes to bottling, the wine has 'eaten up' the lees, and has taken on additional rich, creamy properties – and with the vitality, to age beautifully.

2006 Te Koko Sauvignon, Cloudy Bay, Marlborough
Aromas of lemon thyme, mandarin blossom and stonefruit combine harmoniously with ginger spice and nutty and savoury tones, underlined by exotic tropical notes. The many-layered palate is creamy and textured, balanced by a clean, mineral acidity. Cloudy Bay winemakers. The grapes for Te Koko come from the same meticulously managed vineyards as Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, and the parcels of fruit destined for Te Koko are identified at the time of harvesting. The fruit is fermented naturally using indigenous yeasts. Te koko is released as a three year old wine, only after all of the individual components are fully integrated.
Château Le Chec Blanc, Bordeaux
Aromas of vanilla oak, fresh limes and greengages, terrific with white wine-braised pork sausages, from this classic Graves estate. Christian Auney's pride in his estate's terroir is such that he's liable to scoop up a handful of rugged gravel and declare "Voila, le vrai Graves". 80-year-old vines and rigorously low yields result in concentrated flavours and consistent quality. Christian uses Sémillon for richness and a little Muscadelle to liven the final wine.
2008 Touraine Sauvignon, Paul Buisse
Paul Buisse has 15 hectares of vines close by the charming town of Montrichard on the banks of the river Cher. Here he has established not only his own wine cellars, dug deep into the chalky cliffs, but has also developed a thriving negociant business, dealing in wines from all over the Loire Valley. The Sauvignon he makes for us is from his own vineyards. Deliciously typical of this grape. Try this with some fresh goat cheese or served with hot fish pie. It is delightfully versatile.
