2009 Batard Montrachet, Grand Cru, Etienne Sauzet, En P 6 bottles per case
The ever-sanguine Gérard Boudot, sporting a grey designer stubble, continues to make excellent wines. His immaculate winery inspires one with confidence, with its nautically furled hosepipes, shiny tanks, and scrubbed tiles underfoot. We are seeing a changing of the guard at the domaine, with his daughter and her husband gradually taking over the reins, but like all these things, gradual is the operative word. Maintaining standards won’t be an issue, but bettering their inheritance may be difficult. Gérard’s 09s are fresh and clean, with some excellent weight of ripe fruit. They will be drinking supremely relatively soon.

2008 Sauvignon/Semillon, Cape Mentelle, Margaret River
Cape Mentelle is the Aussie cousin of the NZ winery Cloudy Bay and their standards are just as high. Pioneering work by winemaker David Hoehnen in the early years set standards for the region which have made the name Margaret River synonymous with quality.
Château Le Chec Blanc, Bordeaux
Aromas of vanilla oak, fresh limes and greengages, terrific with white wine-braised pork sausages, from this classic Graves estate. Christian Auney's pride in his estate's terroir is such that he's liable to scoop up a handful of rugged gravel and declare "Voila, le vrai Graves". 80-year-old vines and rigorously low yields result in concentrated flavours and consistent quality. Christian uses Sémillon for richness and a little Muscadelle to liven the final wine.
