We used to stock the wines of Francois Jobard many years ago and a recent return to his cellars showed us that we had been missing out in the interim. Francois has now handed over control of this estate to his son, Antoine, and we were very impressed with the quality of his 08s.

Domaine de la Bongran is one of Adnams most favoured estates. Why? Because year after year the Thevenet family produce stunning wines - totally unique in style and incredibly generous in flavour. Each wine takes months, if not years, to fully ferment. The grapes are late-picked, and the winery philosophy is totally unhurried. Tokay/Pinot Gris, Rolly-Gassmann
Tokay-Pinot Gris: a speciality of Alsace, spicy, honeyed, musky and exotic. Wonderful with honey roast pork. Pierre Gassman, champion of biodynamic cultivation in Alsace, insists on late harvesting and lengthy cellaring after bottling, creating amply sweet yet balanced styles. In-depth knowledge of his domaine (a complex mosaic of limestone and marls, created when two Alsace families united at the altar) and pursuit of low yields promote precise expression of different 'terroirs'.
1997 Chardonnay, Hilltop Muzealis, Neszmely
Unoaked Chardonnay from Hilltop's finest vineyard sites bottled shortly after production and left to mature for a decade. Great value. Hilltop is a substantial producer that exports millions of bottles to the UK. Most interestingly it is very close to becoming an organic producer, unusual for an estate of this size.
