2008 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, 12-bottle case
Here's what the winemakers have got to say about their 2008 Sauvignon Blanc, "Scented and summery, the 2008 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc has deliciously vibrant aromatics that infuse the tropical fragrance of fresh passionfruit and juicy pineapples with garden-fresh basil and the spiciness of crushed tomato leaves. The palate is long and succulent, combining exotic fruits with ripe, red capsicum and a twist of green olive... beautifully complemented by crisp natural acidity and a hint of lime zest." VILLA MARIA - Private Bin Gewurztraminer 2010 75cl Bottle
This wine shows perfumed and classic varietal aromas of petal, quince and spice. The palate reveals similar flavours, delivered with a seamless texture and balance. 100% Gewurztraminer. Each vineyard was harvested separately, with fruit destemmed and crushed into the press. To aid flavour extraction, the skins and free-run juice were held for a skin contact period of two to four hours prior to being gently pressed. The resulting juice was cold settled then racked clean and inoculated with aromatic yeast strains. Cool fermentation techniques were employed to promote fruit aromatics and intensity. Ferments were tasted daily and stopped to retain some natural residual sugar, enhancing mouth-feel and richness. The wine was then blended, lightly fined, cold stabilised and filtered prior to bottling.
2007 3 Amigos White, Marsanne/Chardonnay/Roussanne, McHenry Hohnen, Margaret River
As the founder of Cape Mentelle and Cloudy Bay David Hoehnen's 'wine cred' is as high as it gets. Rather than rest on his laurels he has moved on and 'downsized' to a more hands-on operation with his daughter, Freya, as co-winemaker. There is a policy of minimal intervention in the vineyards where viticultural practices embrace old-fashioned 'common sense' farming philosophies, cultivating a system in which the soil and its organisms, along with plants, insects and animals, co-exist in a thriving equilibrium.
