Wine for a hedonistic spree, with scents of jasmine and honeysuckle and vibrant peachy, citrusy flavours. On a more mundane level, it works well with pan-fried river fish or pork tenderloins. This racy style hails from Manfred Felsner's sun-trapping, free-draining slopes in Kremstal, an hour's drive north-west of Vienna. The 9th generation winemaker started on his steep wine learning curve at the age of 15 when his grandfather gifted him a vineyard.

HURLIMANN 500ml Bottle
Hailed as the first lager to be brewed in Kent, this bracing, brusque Swiss beer had its revered recipe enhanced and improved in 2009. Better balanced and more rounded, lime, rose and pears nestle in the nose while on the palate there's taut graininess, tart grapefruit and a full floral flourish. Hurlimann is brewed by Shepherd Neame to its original recipe, keeping faith with the lager's Continental heritage. The Swiss-style lager delivers a clear, tingling lager with a hint of orange and a complex hop character. Only the finest Swiss yeast and Challenger hops are used to brew a full-bodied lager, which has won a Bronze Medal in the Brewing Industry International Awards.
Pleno, Viura, Navarra
We cherry-picked this perfumed, refreshing white, with its crisp apple skin and citrus flavours, from the massive range on offer from Navarra's Bodegas Principe de Viana. Established in 1983 in Murchante, to the north of the region, it has a gleaming new, technologically-advanced cellar and access to fruit grown over 400 hectares.
DUVEL 330ml Bottle
Duvel has a fruity dry aroma, owed to the finest hops, that reminds experts like Michael Jackson of Poire William concerning its bouquet and pallet. Its dry but still alcohol-sweet flavour makes the beer an excellent thirst-quencher, with a pronounced hop aroma. Thanks to the balance between a fine aroma and subtle bitterness, this beer occupies a unique position in the rich Belgian Beer tradition. Duvel is the perfect companion for appetisers, digestives and every other occasion.
2007 Sauvignon, Cloudy Bay, Marlborough (MAGNUM)
2006 Chardonnay, Juniper Crossing
Sumptuous, concentrated Chardonnay with rich lemon peel, oak and melon aromas. Ten months in oak have lent creamy smoothness and spice. Pop some succulent seafood on your beach barbecue. Juniper's talented winemaker Mark Messenger crafts this wine using parcels of estate-grown fruit as well as that sourced from friends and neighbours in and around Margaret River's Wilyabrup region. Such 'Crossing' gives rise to extra depth and complexity.
2009 Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine, Cuvée Prestige Saupin, Loire (Half bottle)
If you've a platter of fresh bivalves in your sights, and nothing in the way of wine to slurp them down with, Serge Saupin's your man. His property in Nantes (the Atlantic end of the Loire), is home to our top Muscadet, oyster beverage nonpareil. This is his finest cuvée, pale, lemony yellow in colour, crisp and minerally fresh, with that broad, slightly creamy character you only find in the finest 'sur lie' Muscadet (wine left to gain complexity on its yeast 'lees').
